When sport meets opera – and dives into Danish design heritage

When Awa Malina Stelter and Stephanie Gundelach founded OpéraSPORT in 2019, their vision was to merge the fluidity and functionality of sport with the elegance and poetry of opera. “The name says it all,” Awa smiles. From the very beginning, they have worked seasonlessly, creating styles that can be worn again and again – regardless of trends or the time of year. Today, OpéraSPORT is an international brand with a strong global presence, yet they remain committed to their founding philosophy: honest, long-lasting design with a clear and refined aesthetic.

Our collaboration with OpéraSPORT was a limited edition – created exclusively for the show during Copenhagen Fashion Week, August 2025.

Design with a long horizon

OpéraSPORT’s mission is to challenge the way we think about clothing production – through considered design and a modern, inclusive value set. “We don’t design for just one body type or one kind of woman,” Awa explains. “We believe in diversity, both visually and personally.” Their design DNA is clear: timeless, strong, and sensory. “We want to create pieces you can wear again and again – and that still feel relevant,” says Awa. “Just like the best design classics. That’s exactly where we share so much with Stelton.”

Longevity and colour as storytellers

For OpéraSPORT, long-lasting design means creating clothing that isn’t tied to the shifting moods of the seasons. The silhouettes are timeless, the materials high-quality, and the production methods carefully considered – often using deadstock, certified recycled fabrics, or organic textiles.

Colour is a central element in telling the story of each collection. This season’s palette draws inspiration from Seoul’s soft pastels, balanced with fresh, contrasting tones. “Colour is our way of telling stories – a bit like music in an opera, just translated into clothing,” Awa explains.

Frederiksberg swimming hall – an architectural scene change

For Copenhagen Fashion Week, OpéraSPORT chose Frederiksberg Swimming Hall as their show location – a choice that brought fashion, architecture, and Danish design heritage together in one space. The building’s functionalist architecture mirrors the calm, poetic energy of the collection and draws a visual link to the view from a hotel pool in Seoul, which inspired the entire design process.

“We wanted to create a space where physical movement and poetic aesthetics meet. There’s something wonderful about presenting elegant silhouettes in a place that smells of chlorine and has clean, simple lines.”

In this meeting of sport and opera – of architecture and fashion – OpéraSPORT shows how Danish design can be both sensory and functional, and always full of surprises.
